چکیده

Background: In patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy, orbital decompression surgery is indicated for compressive optic neuropathy, severe corneal exposure, or for cosmetic deformity due to proptosis. Traditionally this has been performed through a transantral approach, but the associated complication rate is high. More recently, endoscopic orbital decompression has been performed successfully with significantly fewer postoperative complications. Objective: To report our experience of endoscopic orbital decompression in patients with severe Graves' ophthalmopathy. Methods: Three patients (five eyes) underwent endoscopic orbital decompression for Graves' ophthalmopathy at Soroka Medical Center between the years 2000 and 2002. The indications for surgery were compressive optic neuropathy in three eyes, severe corneal exposure in one eye, and severe proptosis not cosmetically acceptable for the patient in one case. An intranasal endoscopic approach with the removal of the medial orbital wall and medial part of the floor was

Endonasal endoscopic orbital decompression in patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy.

AIM To present the results of endonasal endoscopic orbital decompression in patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy. METHODS Endonasal endoscopic orbital decompression was performed in 32 orbits of 21 patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy. In 17 patients the surgery was performed because of active ophthalmopathy non-responsive to conservative treatment, and in 4 patients for esthetic reasons. Pre...

Endoscopic orbital decompression for optic neuropathy in thyroid ophthalmopathy.

Optic neuropathy, an uncommon manifestation occurs in 5% of patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy. Its outcome is good if early and proper treatment given. We reported a 49 years old male patient of Graves' disease with bilateral optic neuropathy. He underwent bilateral transnasal endoscopic orbital decompression with marked improvement of visual acuity bilaterally. The preoperative visual acuit...

Endoscopic orbital decompression for Graves' ophthalmopathy.

Graves' disease may occasionally result in significant proptosis that is either cosmetically unacceptable or causes visual loss. This has traditionally been managed surgically by external decompression of the orbital bony skeleton. Trans-nasal endoscopic orbital decompression is emerging as a new minimally-invasive technique, that avoids the need for cutaneous or gingival incisions. Decompressi...

Original endoscopic orbital decompression of lateral wall through hairline approach for Graves’ ophthalmopathy: an innovation of balanced orbital decompression

Background Orbital decompression is an important surgical procedure for treatment of Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO), especially in women. It is reasonable for balanced orbital decompression of the lateral and medial wall. Various surgical approaches, including endoscopic transnasal surgery for medial wall and eye-side skin incision surgery for lateral wall, are being used nowadays, but many of the...
